Counseling Services

Individual Counseling-

  • A student and the school counselor work in a safe, positive and confidential setting to address issues that could create a barrier to school achievement.
  • Counseling sessions are brief and short-term. Outside resources are available to address on-going counseling needs.
  • Topics are based on the needs of the student and may include: feelings, changing families, friends, stress, academics, social skills, bullying, and problem solving.
  • Individual counseling can be requested by students, teachers or parents.

Small Group Counseling-

  • A process where students, sharing similar issues and concerns, work together in a small group environment consisting of about 3-6 peers. Small groups are referred to as “lunch bunches” and take place during the student’s lunch time, which lasts 30 minutes.
  • Small groups are held for approximately 5-6 weeks.
  • Topics are based on the needs of the students and may include divorce, changing families, friendship, social skills, anger management and self-esteem.
  • Small groups can be requested by students, teachers or parents.

Guidance Lessons-

  • The school counselor develops and implements 3rd and 4th grade classroom lessons driven by the ASCA National School Counseling standards.
  • Classroom lessons are scheduled with teachers to address personal/social, academic and career-related needs at the child’s developmental level.
  • Topics may include bullying, friendship, anger and stress management, conflict resolution, kindness, empathy, and career awareness.
